Vera Wang for David’s Bridal

I adore the challenge of creating truly modern clothes, where a woman’s personality and sense of self are revealed. I want people to see the dress, but focus on the woman.
Vera Wang

There are tons of chick flicks about weddings that share one common element, Vera Wang wedding gowns.  Vera Wang is considered one of the top wedding gown designers.  The average price of a Vera Wang wedding gown is between $3500 – $5000.  Most of your “everyday” brides could not afford a wedding gown of this caliber.

Recently, Vera Wang decided to create an affordable option for budget brides.  Vera Wang teamed up with David’s Bridal to launch “White by Vera Wang”.  Dresses in this collection can be purchased for about $1500 or so.  While the dresses are a fraction of the more expensive Vera Wang designs, the dresses in this collection are quite fashionable.  Here are a few of my favorites from the collection.

Wedding Cakes 101

Selecting a Wedding Cake 101: Getting Started

White couture wedding cakeWhen looking for an estimate for a wedding cake, one of the first questions if the number of guests being served.  Most bakery’s prices are based on the number of guests.  This is also a determining factor when selecting a cake “style”.  A three tier wedding cake will serve a larger number of guests than a two tier cake.

If you are planning a larger wedding on a small budget, there are ways to cut corners.  One very popular trick is using a “fake” wedding cake.  These cakes look like your normal three tier wedding cakes but only one layer of the cake is real.  This layer is used in the cake cutting ceremony.  Guests are served sheet cake which is stored in another room that is not visible to guests.

What type of icing?

rhinestone bow cakeThere are two types of icings commonly used in wedding cakes: fondant and butter cream.  In my opinion, butter cream icing tastes MUCH better.  Fondant icing is not as sweet as butter cream.  However, fondant icing is very pretty.  Many couture wedding cakes are made with fondant icing.  [Read more...]

Inspiration: Timeline Wedding Runner

personalized aisle runner

While reading a blog, I came across a very unique wedding asile runner.  A couple used pictures of themselves over the cource of the relationship in their aisle runner.  The pictures appear to have an aisle that consists of a photo “timeline” of sorts ending at the altar where the couple says their vows.  How sweet and creative!

Items Needed to Complete this Project:

-Iron

-Fabric for runner:  Two tips to remember- you’ll need enough fabric to match the length of your aisle and it is best to use a light colored fabric (I used cream muslin) so your details show up
-Fabric for words: The amount you need depends on the number of words you want to use.  It is best to use a solid color fabric (I used black and green) so the words show up.
-Wonder Under  (also known as fusible web): This is the “glue” you will use to iron your letters onto your runner.  The amount you need depends on the number of letters you want, but it goes fast, so best to have a lot!
-Iron-on Transfers for Photos:  For 90% of my photos I used a full page for one photo, so you’ll need the amount of transfers to match the number of photos you want to use.
-Storage baggies or folders: You’ll need one for each word to keep your letters organized. [Read more...]
